mixed martial arts & self defence
Master Richard Cox, assisted by 2 of his senior students, put the adult class through a 2 hour K-Box workout. This involved advanced stretching, lots of pad work (mainly kicking), kickboxing drills and general fitness work. It was tough but enjoyable, and everyone was pushed to their personal limits and kenw they had had a workout!! Master Cox is a 5th Dan and has a long and prestigious martial arts background. He has fought and trained with some real legends and it was an honour for us to have him at our school. Hopefully we can do some more work with him in the future. A good turnout of parents, friends etc supported the event which saw Liam and Thomas Block successfully obtain their Bo Dan Black Belts. They both gave good accounts of thermselves as they worked right through from White Belt, and demonstrated their all round abilities. Congratulations to them both - they have training for 5 1/2 years so it was great to see them achieve the coverted Black Belt. (photos to follow)
It was a comprehensive grading with students grading right across the syllabus, and it is always facinating to see the different levels and the progression students are making as they move up the rankings.
Well done to all who took part and thanks to Ben Miles, and Ben Whitworth who assisted, and also to a small number of students gained Merit Certificates for achievements in other areas.
Due to summer holidays, this was a smaller than usual event - but probably more daunting for students as they are more in the spotlight. Well done to all who took part and thanks to Ben Miles, Liam and Thomas Block, Ben Whitworth and the others who assisted.
Also a small number of students gained Merit Certificates and/or trophies for good work outside of the school.
Myself, Mark and Ben Whitworth spent the day in Chinatown and Covent Garden before heading east for the boxing show. We enjoyed some great street theatre in the sunshine at Covent Garden before heading to East London for the boxing show. The bll was topped by Norwich fighters Danny Mcintosh and Jon Thaxton, with Danny fighting for the British title. There were a number of other titles up for graps on a varied bill. Sadly both our lads lost; Jon a bit unlucky to lose on points and Danny soundly beaten by a classy looking Nathan Cleverly. Both put up good displays, Danny showing true guts to come back and make fight of it after an early knockdown - I am sure he will be back! For more reports click here. A long but enjoyable day and maybe our next outing a few more will join us (maybe a kickboxing show or cage/UFC event)
